This is a SWISS, early 19th Century Pocket-Watch, in a 46mm Pearl Set – GOLD & ENAMEL CONSULAR Case, which dates to 1820c.
The 15Jewel DUPLEX Movement bears SN 13341 and is unusual in that the duplex wheel is on the top plate. The movement is signed COURVOISIER & C – Chaux de Fonds and is profusely decorated in the Chinese Style. It was recently overhauled by my watchmaker, but is running slow due to some rust on the hairspring, which is difficult to clean. It is key wound and key set on the back.
The case bears SN 13341 (same as the movement), is unsigned and has no assay mark, but is clearly gold as can be seen by some deep scratches and where the enamel is missing on the back. It has a Pearl-Set Bezel and Back Edge and is 46mm in Diameter. It is beautifully styled on the rim and pendant in Gold and Enamel and the back is decorated with an Enamel Floral Still Life Painting (some of which is missing along the edge and should be easily restored).
The watch is being sold in the condition as described and as shown in the pics – (Ref:307 D)
Courvoisier evolved from 1770 through various names and structures, until from 1811- 1845, it was known as COURVOISIER & CIE. It was a very eminent Swiss Maker and was noted by Allix as a producer of the finest early Swiss Carriage Clocks. There are examples of their watches in Collections and Museums, Worldwide. (see Pritchard’s, Swiss Timepiece Makers 1775-1975, pages C81-C84).
Watches of such outstanding design by this eminent Maker rarely reach the market. This one comes to you directly from a Long Time Local Collector and has not been on the market in more than 30 years.
The S&H WORLDWIDE is €90 approx for Worldwide Delivery by Fedex Courier Services.
