Here we offer an Irish Verge Fusee Pocket Watch which has an Enamel Dial and comes in Silver Pair Cases, dating to 1783c.
The inner is signed by Arthur O Neill, the noted Irish Case Maker. It has Irish Hallmarks, the year date is not visible, but bears sn 997. The outer is also signed by Arthur O Neill, has Irish Hallmarks with a year date for 1783c. The Movement is signed John Crosthwaite, Dublin and is running very well and keeping time to within 30 mins per day. It is Key Wound on the Back; Key Set on the Dial and bears sn 997, the same as the case.
John is listed as a Watch & Clockmaker working in Dublin from 1760. He was born in 1745 and died in 1829. He was apprenticed in 1760 and his business was located on Dame St and various addresses in Grafton St. He is a noted Irish Maker of Regulators, Longcase Clocks and Watches – see Watch and Clockmakers in Ireland, by William Galland Stuart : (Edited by David Boles).
The Movement has Round Pillars and is in very good cosmetic condition. It is signed as shown in the pics and bears sn 997.
The Outer Case measures 49mm in diameter and is in good condition. The 40mm Watch Case is also in very good condition and is 22mm deep – (25.4mm =1 inch).
The 38mm Enamel Dial is in excellent condition and has Roman Hour Numerals & Arabic Minutes in the outer chapter ring. It has a raised Glass Crystal and Beetle and Poker Hands – Ref : ACC234
It is being sold as described and in the condition as shown in the pics and comes to you directly from a large Irish Watch Collection, which was assembled over the past 40-50 years
