This is a very nice late 18th Century GILT VERGE-FUSEE Pocketwatch, by John Richardson of London. The Movement bears Serial Number 269 (early in his career) and has an ENAMEL DIAL, with ROMAN Hour and ARABIC Minute Numerals, typical of 18th Century Dials. It has a RUBY End-Stone and Tompion Regulator (which works) and has a Beautiful Cock with a Flower at the base instead of the usual face of Chronos. The GILT case is signed with a Logo (looks like 2 Birds Heads) on the inside back. It is in Good condition, but Lacking some Gilt around the outside & has very slight bruising. Mechanically, it is in excellent working condition and has a 30 hours.Power Reserve. Time keeping is what you expect from a 216 years old Verge – this one runs fast.
G.H Bailey, lists John Richardson as working from 1798 and was made a member of the Clockmakers Company in 1807c – (Ref:RW -1)
