General Description:
This is the largest Pocket Watch I have ever owned, measuring 105mm in Diameter (4 Inches) and 155mm incl the Ring. The fact that it is an OMEGA StationMaster’s night watch makes it the more interesting. The Case Serial Number is in the Omega sequence for 1898 and the movement, though not signed, is an Omega Calibre and many examples of this Watch style in smaller diameter cases signed Omega on the Dial & Movement can be viewed on the internet. The 8 Day Movement has been overhauled, so is running very well and keeping good time (accurate to within 10secs per day, with plenty of scope to regulate further).
It has the very reliable 8day 30”’, 15 Jewel Movement, which is in excellent cosmetic condition. (I haven’t tracked a Calibre number, but I believe it is known as the 8 Day Calibre) and is inset into a plate, which is integral to the extra large case.
The 105mm (155 incl crown & ring), Nickle Case bears serial number 1588594 (1898 manufacture circa) as shown in the pics. (Most early Omega cases have this style and size of numbering). It is in very good condition, with no apparent dings or scrapes save on back rim at 1 and on the cuvette.
The 94mm Enamel Dial, has Large black Roman Numerals and is signed M & M Patent – Swiss Made (The trade mark of Mojon & Manger). There are a number of very light hairlines and a repaired chip at 4.00. An incandscent bulb (a grain of rice bulb) was fitted into the slot at 12.00 and linked to a battery pack connected through the pole at 1.00. It has a large flush subs dial at 6.00 and a nice set of Blued Steel Hands (The hour one is short)
Note: Mojon, Manger & Co “formerly Mojon, Montandon & Co & John Manger & Co, watch and musical box manufacturers, 26 & 27 Bartlett’s Buildings, Holborn Circus, and at Genève”
This is a rare and extra large Stationmasters pocket watch and is associated with names which are amongst the best in Swiss Watchmaking. It is Listed at €495 – open to your best offer – (Ref:L593)
