This is a SUPERB and Very Rare, English Lever-Wind Pocket Watch, which was patented by Adam BURDESS of COVENTRY and dates to 1873c. It has a White Enamel Dial, which is in excellent condition and has a subsidiary dial for constant seconds at 6.00.
This is a fine example of the very hard to find Burdess Keyless Winding System, which he patented, where the method of winding is by moving the lever located in the side of the case back and forth, until the fusee is fully wound. The hands are set by moving the knurled wheel under the bezel at 1pm . The movement and case have the matching serial number 6796.
The case is stamped with the Lion Passant Standard Mark, has a LONDON Assay Mark and year date for 1873c. The Case Maker’s Mark is I K.
The movement is working very well and has a 30 hour power reserve, but is adding about an hour in 24, so will need a service.
It is being sold as described and in the condition as shown in the pics. Ref – 206 D. It is listed at €895 – OPEN to OFFERS.
Brian Loomes lists Adam Burdess as working in Coventry from 1868-1880.
