General Description:

This is a Large ROLEX Wristwatch, which dates to 1914c and is in VERY GOOD CONDITION. It has an early REBBERG 15J, 13 Lignes, Pin-Set Movement with damascened plates, which is signed ROLEX 15 Jewels etc, as shown in the pics.  It is in excellent running order and keeping good time.

The 36mm diameter (incl crown) Rolled Gold Case is in very good cosmetic condition and is stamped “Empress” American Watch Case Co. with serial number 1647268 Os, as shown in the pics. The back is not hinged to the rim, but it fits very tightly and should never need to be removed.

Extract from Wikipedia :

“Alfred Davis and his brother-in-law Hans Wilsdorf founded Wilsdorf and Davis, the company that would eventually become Rolex SA, in London, England in 1905.Wilsdorf and Davis’ main commercial activity at the time involved importing Hermann Aegler’s Swiss movements to England and placing them in high-quality watch cases made by Dennison and others. These early wristwatches were sold to jewellers, who then put their own names on the dial.

The rare 28mm diameter, Black Enamel Dial is in superb condition and has a Retailers Signature in white script, which is very faint and incomplete. I have included a blown up version of this on one of the pics and if anyone recognises it, perhaps you would let me know.

It is fitted to a Black Leather Strap and measures 210mm overall.

This is a superb Rolex, not many of which were made in the early years after the Company was Incorporated, as records show that only 25,000 were sold by the early 1920’s.The movement is the 15 Jewel REBBERG made by Aegler SA, with whom Rolex had a very close association in the early days and later became its manufacturing arm. It was Aegler who registered the name Rolex as a Trade Name for Watches in 1913.( see Pritchard) -(Ref :L665)
