Here we offer a very nice WALTHAM Wristwatch from WW11, which was issued to Royal Airforce Pilots. It is in very good running order and accurate to within 1 minute per day.
The Waltham U.S.A, 16Jewel, 6/0 – ’42 movement, bears sn 31613 520 and is in very good cosmetic condition and working order.
The original 27mm Black metal dial has Arabic Numerals and radium hands & is in very good condition. It is signed Waltham and has a glass crystal.
The Nickle Plated Case has some scratches and slight coating loss in parts, but is generally in good condition. It measures 34mm in diameter, incl. crown and 39mm to the Lugs, which have solid bars. The back is made from Stainless Steel and is signed with the British MOD Broad Arrow – 6B/234 – A5198. In Z.M Wesolowski’s concise guide to Military Timepieces, he states that this is the Air Ministry issue code for a substitute standard pilot’s wristwatch, used between 1939-1945. There is an original, insulated insert stuck to the inside of the back case and the movement dust cover is in place
This may be the Waterproof case with decagonal (10 faceted) screw down back made by Borgel/Taubert & Fils, which had a cork stem seal.
